In PHRF 5, Mark Davenport sailed his recently acquired
B-25, " Tsunami" to a First in
class with a 1,1,4 record. Mark sails out of Cabrillo
Beach YC where the B-25 one design competition is fierce.
In PHRF 4, Scott Taylor, aboard his B-32 " Defiance"
nailed down a 1st in class with a convincing 1,1,2 record
in the storm-shortened series. His well traveled B-32
is having a spectacular year in 2003. After winning its
class at Key West Race Week and taking second at the grueling
2003 SORC, Defiance also won the double handed fleet in
this year's Ensenada race.
In PHRF 2, with Leif Beiley aboard as tactician, " Pendragon
II" sailed to second in class with a 7, 2, 1
record. After a slow start in race 1, Pendragon found
the fast lane in races 2 and 3. Pendragon II is the only
boat we know of that has had its PHRF rating hammered
from 60 to 21 and still brings home the silver. Last year
Pendragon, a 1979 vintage Davidson 44, received a new
Leif Beiley designed and built bow, giving the old girl
has a new lease on life. In 2002 she was third at Yachting
Cup, second at Cal Race Week and first at Golison North
Sails Race Week. This year the boat, owned by Dave and
Jan Gray of Newport Beach, won the 2003 Midwinters and
took second in class in the Ahmanson-Dickson series.
